Papers in 10 vols. gathered by Mellen Chamberlain for his work "A Documentary History of Chelsea ... 1624-1824" (1908); also containing mss., printed matter, photographs and ephemera relating to Chelsea (Mass.) town life in the latter half of the 19th century. Vol. I contains papers of the estates of Richard and Samuel Bellingham. Vols. I-III contain papers of the estates of Samuel and Richard Watts, other Watts family papers, and much material produced by Jonathan Green and other leading Chelsea citizens. Vols. III-X contain materials relating to the history of Chelsea (which included Revere and Malden): Chelsea town and First Church (Revere) records, and later 19th century materials, including correspondence. (Cont'd) Town records include deeds, maps, and town clerk and treasurer records, bills and receipts. There are two vols. of newsclippings from The Telegraph and Pioneer, 1880-1883, which serialized Chamberlain's "History." One box contains a typed ms. (195 pp.), "Minutes from the Memoirs of John Quincy Adams," and 4 account books (1740-1769) of Samuel Watts. One large separate account book, 1742-1745, probably belonged to Samuel Watts as well. There are also two letters (1898) from Charles F. Adams located in the box.
